Baritone Ludovic Tézier was born in 1968 in Marseille to a music-loving family and frequently listened to opera as a child. His discovery of Parsifal at the Opera de Marseille made him a “lyricophage” in his own words. He studied singing with Claudine Duprat before joining CNIPAL and then the Lyric Training Center at the Paris Opera. He began his career in 1992 playing Pompeo in Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini at the Grand Theatre de Genève.

His solo career took off around the turn of the millennium. In 2000, he portrayed Hamlet in Toulouse alternately with baritone Thomas Hampson who, upon listening to him, said, “now I can retire.” Since then, he has sung on the world’s most prestigious stages, including Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Vienna State Opera, and the Royal Ballet and Opera in London. He has also performed at numerous festivals, such as those in Aix-en-Provence, Chorégies d’Orange, and the Opera Festival at the Arena di Verona.
