There will be no blackout on Ligue 1 + this summer. Invited on RMC, LFP Media marketing and editorial director Jérôme Cazadieu announced that the league’s channel will broadcast some friendly matches of French championship clubs during the mid-season.
If the channel had once hoped to obtain the full rights to the 2026 World Cup, which were ultimately acquired by BeIN Sports, there will be no radio silence at the end of the current season, with the return leg playoff match on May 25 and the first day of the next season on August 23.
«Discussions are currently underway with clubs from our league,” said Cazadieu. Not all matches have been finalized yet, nor the dates or locations, but I think we will have between 20 and 25 games between mid-July and mid-August, with some very good matchups.»
What about the European Cup?
It remains to be seen if Paris Saint-Germain will be affected by these broadcasts on Ligue 1 +. Traditionally, the friendly matches of the Parisian club are usually broadcast on BeIN Sports, which shares its president with the club, or directly on the club’s channel PSG TV.
RMC specifies that Ligue 1 + “will ensure the production of matches played on French soil” and that the channel could also position itself on the preliminary rounds of the European Cup involving French clubs, “distinct rights from those held by Canal + and accessible through specific acquisitions.”
