The writer-philosopher Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt recently told me, as we discussed the meaning of the word “festival”, that “every artistic impulse has the merit of contributing to the fulfillment of each person in both entertainment and the emotion it provides.” Eric-Emmanuel added: “This is also the strength of each festival.” And so was born “The Festival of Arts at Château de Berne,” which celebrates its first year today, from late April to mid-September.
This is indeed a first, not only in the timing of its inception, but also in what it represents.
A diverse festival where all arts have their place. A unique festival under the stars at nightfall, in a semi-circular amphitheater, facing a pond of water lilies on which floats a stage, surrounded by wooded nature as far as the eye can see, between a vineyard and a gourmet hotel establishment, ranked among the best in the world. Château de Berne is indeed a Relais & Châteaux star-rated hotel which, with this Festival of Arts, offers in its international institution a first in its history: to open a scenic space to audiences of all kinds and experience all forms of art up close with the artists.
