A third round of talks between the United States and Iran is set to open this Thursday in Geneva.
Tehran and Washington will once again try to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
New round of discussions this Thursday. American negotiators, along with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his delegation, arrived in Geneva on Wednesday, February 25th, ahead of the third round of talks between Washington and Tehran scheduled for this Thursday.
Despite Donald Trump’s remarks on Tuesday before Congress about “sinister nuclear ambitions” from Iran, the United States expresses optimism about reaching an agreement ensuring that Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons. “The president has many other tools at his disposal” to ensure that Iran does not develop atomic bombs,” said Vice President JD Vance on Fox News, concluding: “He has shown he is ready to use them, and I hope the Iranians will take this seriously tomorrow during the negotiations.”
“Big lies”
Tehran, on the other hand, categorically rejected the allegations from the American president, stating that everything the United States claims about the Iranian nuclear program, “from Iran’s ballistic missiles” to “the number of victims during the January unrest, is nothing but the repetition of big lies,” according to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esma’il Bagha’i, in a post on X.
Western countries and Israel, considered by experts as the only nuclear power in the Middle East, suspect Iran of seeking nuclear weapons. Tehran denies having such ambitions but insists on its right to develop a civilian nuclear program under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to which it is a signatory.
As the United States has already deployed a massive presence in the Gulf region, Washington, through the Ministry of Finance, has imposed new sanctions on four Iranians, companies, and twelve ships to weaken the Islamic Republic.
The two enemy countries resumed dialogue on February 6th through Omani mediation. Their previous talks were abruptly halted by the war that broke out in June 2025 due to an Israeli attack, in which Washington participated by bombing Iranian nuclear sites.
