The Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, announced her resignation on Friday, citing health issues with her husband.

A former member of the Democratic Party, Tulsi Gabbard ran in the party’s presidential primary in 2020 with an anti-interventionist platform. She later dropped out of the race and endorsed the eventual President of the United States, Joe Biden.

In 2022, Tulsi Gabbard left the Democratic Party and voiced support for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, before later joining the Republican Party that same year.

Appointed as the Director of National Intelligence by Donald Trump in early 2025, Tulsi Gabbard faced criticism for her stances on Russia and federal agencies. Her resignation comes after months of tensions and controversies in Washington.

Her departure adds to a series of shakeups within Donald Trump’s cabinet.

In recent months, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was sidelined amid sharp criticism of her handling of immigration and several security crises. Attorney General Pam Bondi also stepped down amidst a tense atmosphere in Washington. Finally, Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer resigned amid allegations of misconduct.
