In France, the iconic animated series “Masters of the Universe”, also known as “Les Maîtres de l’univers”, will not be hitting the big screen. Instead, fans will have to find other ways to enjoy or critique this beloved fantasy franchise.

Considered a cult classic in the fantasy genre, “Masters of the Universe” holds a significant place alongside other popular franchises like “Donjons et Dragons”. After facing initial setbacks with a poorly received film adaptation, the iconic 1980s animated series is set to make a comeback under the direction of Travis Knight, known for his work with Laika Studios and the film “Bumblebee”.

While audiences in the United States can look forward to the film’s theatrical release starting June 5th, French fans will have to wait as the official announcement confirms that the movie will not be shown in cinemas but will be available later on Amazon Prime Video.

This decision by Amazon to forego a theatrical release in France is not entirely surprising, as the streaming platform has made similar choices in the past with other high-profile productions. Despite the absence of a cinema release, the anticipation remains high for “Masters of the Universe”, especially considering its hefty budget of over $170 million and a star-studded cast that includes names like Jared Leto and Idris Elba.

With the film’s fate now resting on its performance at the box office, it seems the battle for success for “Masters of the Universe” will be fought without the support of French cinemas.
