Leon Panetta, former director of the CIA, was a guest on LCI on Friday, May 15th. He criticized the American intervention in Iran, stating that the goal of toppling the regime was not supported by intelligence information.

Regarding the conflict escalation, he believes that sending the army is now the only solution to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

“The history has always taught us that you can’t bomb to achieve a regime change,” Panetta said. He expressed disappointment over the lack of clear objectives in the military intervention in Iran.

Panetta also discussed the nuclear ambitions of Iran and the ineffectiveness of the military operation to facilitate regime change. He believes that the U.S. missed the opportunity to adopt a different approach in handling the situation with Iran.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz was also a focal point of his analysis, where he emphasized the need for a military solution to resolve the current deadlock in the region.

He expressed his skepticism about the future of the region and raised concerns about a potential resurgence of conflict between the U.S. and Israel. Panetta suggested that trust issues between the parties could lead to further tensions in the region.
