On April 25, Cole Allen had tried to force a security check at the entrance of the White House Correspondents’ Association annual gala, which was attended by Donald Trump. Shots were fired before Cole Allen was subdued and arrested.

The Californian assailant has been accused of four charges, including assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon and attempting to assassinate the President of the United States. According to several American media outlets, Cole Allen pleaded not guilty on Monday.

According to the Washington federal prosecutor, the investigation revealed that the suspect fired a single shot and hit an agent – wearing a bulletproof vest – before being targeted five times by the Secret Service, responsible for the security of high-profile American personalities. He was not hit but slightly injured his knee when falling. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for June 29, according to several media outlets.

This attack marks the third assassination attempt against 79-year-old Donald Trump in less than two years. The Republican president was first targeted in July 2024 during a campaign event where he was injured in the ear, and then a few months later at his golf course in Florida.
