Originally from France, 85-year-old Marie-Thérèse Ross married her “first love” in 2025, a US army veteran, in January. The couple were living together in Alabama, and Marie-Thérèse was awaiting her green card to stay legally in the US, according to reports.
In Prison in Pajamas
However, on April 1st, five ICE agents forcibly knocked on her door. The octogenarian, in her pajamas and slippers, hesitated before opening the door. She later recounted being pushed inside by the men. Thus began Marie-Thérèse’s nightmare.

Detained for being deemed illegal in the US, she was held in prison in Alabama, still in her pajamas as police refused to let her change. She was then transferred to a detention center in Louisiana, 700 km away, without being able to contact her children, under conditions she described as “unspeakably brutal.”

She was cramped with 58 others in a hangar, unable to sleep, eat, or access medical care. After two weeks, she was finally released and returned to France. She confirmed to RTL that she won’t go back unless to visit friends.
