The public establishment Paris La Défense is taking a new step in the transformation of the business district with the launch of a call for tenders to reinvent the Parvis, located at the foot of the Grande Arche de La Défense. The goal is to revitalize this strategic space through a placemaking device combining animation, attractiveness, and usage flexibility.
After the delivery of the central square in 2023 and the launch of the future Esplanade park in 2025, this initiative is part of a global redevelopment of the historic axis connecting the Louvre Museum to La Défense.
A strategic space at the heart of traffic
With its 1.3 hectares, Parvis is a focal point of the neighborhood, located above the La Défense station – frequented by nearly 500,000 travelers per day – and between the Westfield Les 4 Temps and CNIT centers. Every week, 1.5 million people pass through.
Initially designed as a mineral and open space capable of hosting large events, the site must now evolve into an identifiable and inclusive living space for everyone. The consultation aims to select a designer-operator capable of making it an attractive destination without compromising its multi-purpose forum vocation.
A flexible project with versatile uses
The future device will have to integrate modular amenities, easily dismantlable or movable, to preserve the site’s versatility. Expected criteria include the creation of relaxation areas, shaded and vegetated areas, as well as furniture suitable for different times of the day.
The event aspect is also a central focus: sports activities, family entertainment, after-work gatherings, or weekend programs will help animate the neighborhood’s life.
A strong environmental ambition
In line with its transition strategy, Paris La Défense imposes strict requirements in terms of eco-design. Projects will have to prioritize reusable materials, limit their carbon footprint, and integrate solutions that enhance climate comfort.
This approach is part of the ambition to make La Défense a post-carbon business district, reconciling economic attractiveness, quality of life, and environmental sobriety.
Candidates have until June 22, 2026, to submit their offer. The winner will be entrusted with a mission lasting three years, with the aim of transforming one of the most emblematic spaces in Greater Paris.
