The British king Charles III and Queen Camilla were received at the White House on Monday, where they had tea with the President of the United States. They then attended the “garden party” at the British embassy.

The United States rolled out the red carpet for Charles III. The British king and Queen Camilla were grandly received on Monday, April 27 at the White House by Donald Trump.

The American president and his wife Melania welcomed the royal couple at the south entrance of the White House before heading inside the building for tea.

In various pictures, the two couples are seen sitting in the Green Room around a coffee table loaded with cups and pastries. A very Anglo-Saxon cultural moment.

The four leaders then headed to the White House gardens to visit the beehives located there. Followed by the press photographers, they discovered a display of honey pots, accompanied by aromatic plants.

Charles III, a nature and flora enthusiast, also got to explore the southern gardens of the White House.

The British crown was also presented with a model of the future ballroom of the White House, a project dear to Donald Trump, which was showcased in the gardens.

The whole event, from tea to the end of the White House garden tour, lasted a little over an hour.

A “garden party” in the tradition

King Charles and Queen Camilla then made their way to the British embassy for a “garden party,” a “tradition of royal visits to Washington spanning generations,” as highlighted by the embassy.

Once again, the royal couple was grandly welcomed to celebrate “friendship at the heart of the US-UK relationship.” A choir and musicians were present at the embassy entrance.

Numerous American political figures were present: the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson and one of his predecessors Nancy Pelosi, the US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and Senator Ted Cruz.

British champion diver Tom Daley was also seen in the British contingent.

This visit by King Charles III, despite the shootings at the press gala attended by Donald Trump over the weekend, remains highly criticized in the UK where the president’s popularity is at an all-time low due to his involvement in the Middle East war. A state visit that is far less straightforward than it may seem, also overshadowed by the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

From now on, Charles III will embark on the main part of his state visit to the United States, with a reception at the White House and a speech before Congress.

On his second day in Washington, the King of England will speak for about twenty minutes before the American Congress, 250 years after the declaration of independence of the American colonies from the British crown on July 4, 1776.

Before addressing the American lawmakers, Charles III and Queen Camilla will be formally welcomed at the White House by Donald and Melania Trump with 21 cannon shots and a troop review.
