Ten minutes before opening fire at the gala, Cole Tomas Allen sent a manifesto to his loved ones explaining his actions, as reported by the New York Post. Describing himself as a “sympathetic federal assassin,” he admitted to wanting to “kill” members of the Trump administration and anyone who stood in his way.
Returning to the White House, Donald Trump referred to the main suspect as a “lone wolf” and a “potential assassin.” He commended law enforcement for their bravery and suggested that the hotel where the correspondents’ dinner took place was not especially secure.
Authorities announced that Cole Tomas Allen will appear in court on Monday for “firearm use during a violent crime” and “assaulting a federal agent with a dangerous weapon.” An agent of the Secret Service was shot but survived due to their bulletproof vest. The suspect was pictured shirtless, face down, and handcuffed on Trump’s Truth Social platform.
