Gunshots at Washington press gala force Donald Trump to be evacuated

“This will not make me give up on winning the war in Iran.” Just hours after being evacuated from a platform in Washington due to shots fired at a press gala, Donald Trump displayed his determination.

Saturday night, the American president was attending the dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association when an individual opened fire, causing a panic. Quickly secured, he spoke shortly after to journalists, stating that this incident would not alter the American stance in the ongoing conflict with Iran.

An apparently unrelated attack

Questioned about a possible connection between the shots and the war that was triggered on February 28 against Tehran, in coordination with Israel, Donald Trump was cautious. “I don’t know if this had anything to do with that, I really don’t think so, based on what we know.” He had previously responded “we never know” to a similar question.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently considered a “lone wolf” by the president. Investigators are continuing their investigation to determine his motivations.

In this context of heightened tensions, the White House has announced the cancellation of a diplomatic mission to Pakistan. American envoys were supposed to go there to try to open an indirect channel of discussion with Iranian representatives.

“The armed attack targeting the president of the United States last night is unacceptable. Violence has no place in democracy.”, wrote the French president. “I extend all my support to Donald Trump.” Many world leaders (Great Britain, Israel, India, Pakistan, Canada, Spain) have also expressed their indignation and relief.
