It is a case that puts the Mexican government in a very delicate situation. Two days after a car accident on April 19 in the state of Chihuahua (northern Mexico) that caused the deaths of two Mexicans and two Americans, The Washington Post revealed that the two US citizens were embassy officials collaborating with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Returning from an operation led by Mexican forces to dismantle a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in an isolated area of the Sierra de Chihuahua, the vehicle crashed violently, killing all four occupants.
This revelation raises many questions in Mexico as the government continues to reject any form of American interference on its territory, despite pressure from Donald Trump to intervene in the fight against cartels.
“There can be no foreign interference”
The president, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that her government had no knowledge of any collaboration between the state of Chihuahua and the staff of the US embassy in Mexico, as reported by the Spanish version of CNN. The leader reportedly instructed the Minister of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to get more information.
