The White House spokesperson announced on Wednesday, April 22, that Donald Trump would impose his own timeline and had not set a deadline for Iran to make a proposal.

American President Donald Trump has not set a deadline for Iran to make a proposal, said White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday, April 22.

“The president has not set a deadline to receive a proposal from Iran,” she told reporters following the White House, stating that, “ultimately, the timeline will be imposed” by Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, the president announced the extension of the ceasefire until further notice, to give more time for Tehran to negotiate, while maintaining the blockade of Iranian ports.

Iran criticizes American attitude

This American blockade was strongly criticized by Iranian leaders on Wednesday. Iranian Parliament President Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the United States of violating the ceasefire between the two countries.

“A complete ceasefire only makes sense if it is not violated by a naval blockade and the hostage-taking of the global economy,” the leader denounced.

The president of Iran, meanwhile, stated on social media platform X that “the blockade and threats” from America were the “main obstacles to true negotiations.” “The whole world sees your hypocrisy and the blatant contradiction between your words and actions,” added Masoud Pezeshkian, without explicitly naming the United States.

Despite this, Donald Trump remains optimistic and deemed it “possible” that discussions between Iran and his country would resume in the coming days. “It’s possible! President DJT,” replied the White House tenant to a journalist from the New York Post who asked about the likelihood of discussions taking place in the next “36 to 72 hours.”
