In the United States, a tragedy unfolded on Tuesday in Omaha, Nebraska. A 31-year-old woman, identified as Noemi Guzman, was shot by the police after allegedly assaulting a 3-year-old child with a knife, as reported by ABC News.
According to authorities, the suspect reportedly stole a knife from a Walmart before attacking the child who was sitting in a shopping cart. She then forced the child’s guardian to accompany them under threat, leading them to the store’s parking lot.
Alerted by several emergency calls just before 9:15 am, the police intervened on the scene and ordered the suspect to drop her weapon. Faced with her refusal and after she had injured the child, two officers opened fire, fatally hitting her.
The child was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries and was reunited with their family. An investigation is ongoing and the case will be reviewed by a grand jury, in accordance with procedures for a police-involved incident.
