Omaha police do not understand at this stage what prompted her to act this way. On Tuesday, April 14th, law enforcement in this Nebraska city in the United States shot down a woman in the parking lot of a Walmart supermarket who was attacking a three-year-old boy with a knife, as reported by Associated Press.
According to Omaha Deputy Police Chief Scott Gray, the suspect first approached a customer shopping with the child in the store before threatening her with a stolen knife from one of the aisles. She then “seized the child, effectively kidnapping him,” Scott Gray explained.
The abductor ordered the woman to walk in front of the cart where the little boy was. “They left the store as if nothing had happened, without anyone suspecting anything,” the Omaha deputy police chief explained.
The child’s life is not in danger
The two had a heated verbal exchange in the parking lot for several minutes before the arrival of police officers. While the officers were giving her instructions, the suspect started “hitting the child in the face with the knife,” Scott Gray specified. At least one officer then shot the suspect, who died on the spot.
The child was injured in the face and hand and was hospitalized, but his life is not in danger. At this stage, the police are unaware of the motives of the woman who was shot. They only indicated that she and the customer with the child did not know each other.
