The Trump administration has extended until the end of October a waiver allowing Lukoil gas stations to operate outside of Russia, a narrow tolerance in the sanctions that the United States imposed last year to curb the revenue supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

The waiver for approximately 2,000 stations across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas has been extended until October 29, the Treasury Department said on its website Tuesday. President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Lukoil and Rosneft, the two largest Russian oil companies, in October, sparking interest from potential buyers of Lukoil’s international assets, estimated at $22 billion. Lukoil owns around 200 branded gas stations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York state. It is one of the leading fuel retailers in Moldova and Bulgaria and operates around 600 stations in Turkey and over 300 in Romania.

The Treasury also issued a license authorizing certain transactions with Lukoil’s refining entities in Bulgaria, including Lukoil Neftohim Burgas JSC.
