Christophe Ramond, president of the Tarn Departmental Council, surrounded by departmental Vice-Presidents, received the new mayors of Tarn for a time of exchange placed under the sign of proximity and support. In a context where the role of mayor is increasingly demanding, this meeting provided concrete benchmarks and useful tools for the exercise of the mandate, while recalling the essential role of the Department alongside the municipalities. Alongside the municipalities, the Department acts as a pillar of regional planning, providing concrete support for everyday projects such as the renovation of schools, sports facilities, urban development or the maintenance of public services. “We are at your side to support you in your structuring projects, those which lastingly shape your municipalities. Our role is to help you see further, to build, to invest, while you ensure, on a daily basis, this essential link with your citizens. Above all, I wish to provide you with concrete elements, useful benchmarks, to support you in the exercise of your responsibilities Because well informed, well supported, a mayor can act more effectively in the service of his municipality. You can count on the Department to be at your side, in a simple, direct and operational manner”, explained Christophe Ramond. Despite a constrained budgetary context, the Tarn Department maintains a high level of financial commitment to local communities. Since 2023, an average of 15 million euros per year has been mobilized via the Territorial Development Fund, making it possible to modernize public facilities, improve mobility and develop school infrastructure. In 2026, this dynamic continues with an envelope increased to 16.1 million euros. Rigorous management allows Tarn to remain the most economical department in Occitanie, while strengthening its support systems, in particular through the FAVIL (Local Life and Local Investment Assistance Fund), the deployment of the medicobus to fight against medical deserts, or even exceptional aid mobilized following storms Nils and Pedro. As part of the departmental charter of territories, several structuring measures were presented, including “Cities and villages of the future”, actions to adapt to climate change, an ambitious water policy with 29 million euros over five years, or the Tarn à vélo plan, which provides for 500 km of safe cycling facilities between 2022 and 2027.
