Zinäbe Haddaoui has announced her resignation from her position as municipal councilor of Avignon on social media. She stated that this decision was necessary. Previously elected alongside Cécile Helle for two terms, she served as deputy for sports in the last term. Initially endorsed by the PS party for the municipal elections, she later aligned with the Avignon Collective citizens, who then formed a joint list with LFI and Mathilde Louvain. Despite the defeat, she secured a prominent spot on the merged LFI-PS list.
However, the campaign seems to have taken its toll on her. She expressed feeling that she had reached the limit of what she could achieve in the current framework. She mentioned feeling disconnected from her political actions lately, with the focus on pace, codes, power dynamics, and corridor strategies overshadowing the core reasons for their work.
Highlighting personal ambitions and conforming to a mold that she does not identify with, Zinäbe Haddaoui stated her intention to continue public service and return to grassroots efforts. Her withdrawal is expected to pave the way for Khalid El Yousoufi, the first non-elected candidate on the left list, to join the municipal council.
