The Royal Air Force plane carrying British Defense Minister John Healey this week experienced GPS signal jamming during a flight near the Russian border, according to The Times.
Returning from Estonia on Thursday, where he had been meeting British troops deployed in the country, “the satellite signal of his government plane was interrupted,” the newspaper reported on Sunday, with a journalist on board the aircraft.
Phones and computers were unable to connect to the internet, forcing the pilots to use alternative methods to determine the plane’s location, a Falcon 900LX, during the three-hour flight.
The newspaper suspects Russia was behind this incident, which is not the first of its kind. In 2024, the plane carrying the Defense Minister of the conservative government at the time, Grant Shapps, from Poland also experienced GPS signal interference while passing near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
Downing Street mentioned that such jamming near the Russian enclave was not unusual. The British Ministry of Defense declined to comment.
