U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Monday that progress could happen “maybe today” in discussions between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict.

“The work continues. We thought we could announce progress last night, maybe today,” said Marco Rubio to journalists in the Indian capital New Delhi, before heading to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal.

The U.S. Secretary of State affirmed that “a fairly solid proposal is currently on the table,” especially regarding the reopening of the strait and the commitment to “serious, substantive, and time-limited negotiations” on the Iranian nuclear issue.

“We hope to achieve that,” he added.

During his four-day visit to India, Marco Rubio also assured that President Donald Trump would not make “a bad deal” and that Washington intends to “give diplomacy every chance.”

“As President Trump said, he is not in a rush and will not make a bad deal. We will give diplomacy every chance before considering another option,” he stated.
