Soldier with PTSD commits suicide

Alex Miller, a 23-year-old former combat soldier in the Israeli military hailing from the United States, was recently found dead in what appears to be a suicide. He was suffering from post-traumatic stress related to his military service.

According to the municipality of Katzrin on the Golan Heights, where his father Danny lives, the young man, who was serving in a combat unit, had been recently injured during an attack on a bus in 2022 in the West Bank. Despite a rehabilitation process, he still tried to reintegrate into the army alongside his comrades.

The municipality also stated that Miller was deeply affected by the death of his close friend, Sergeant (Res.) Noam Shemesh, 21, who was killed in combat in southern Gaza in 2025.

Miller, his father’s only child, had to obtain special parental permission to go into combat.

«We mourn this terrible loss and share the profound pain of the family. Our thoughts are with his dear father, Danny Miller, during this particularly difficult time,» the municipality said in a statement.
