India and Oman are strengthening their strategic defense cooperation. The program is led by two Indian Mobile Training Teams (IMTT) with a core of officers from the Indian Defense Interarm Staff (HQ IDS) and experts from all three branches of the armed forces: army, navy, and air force.
The training session brought together about 110 senior officers representing the Royal Army, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, and specialized agencies of the Omani Ministry of Defense. The focus was mainly on operational coordination and joint logistical preparation, a concrete step towards enhancing interoperability and military cooperation between the two countries.
This military cooperation comes amid a complex security situation in the Middle East. Previously, Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar had a phone conversation with his Omani counterpart, Hamad Al Busaidi, to delve deep into solutions to defuse the regional crisis and review all aspects of political and security cooperation between the two countries.
Maritime security is a major concern for both countries following an attack on an Indian-flagged commercial vessel off the Omani coast. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned acts targeting civilian shipping and reaffirmed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the region.
New Delhi also praised the successful coordination efforts by Omani authorities in the rescue operation and ensuring the total security of the Indian crew. These coordinated and timely actions reflect the growing strategic confidence between both countries in maintaining stability and shared security on vital maritime routes in the region.
