Around 361 students engaged and gathered around patriotic values from all over Saône-et-Loire came on Tuesday to take up the challenge of the first Defense Classes 71 rally!
Fully in line with interdisciplinary and multi-year educational projects related to defense and security, the BPIA, a godparent military unit, organized a Rally Day for cadets from defense classes in partnership with local schools.
Saône-et-Loire currently has 23 defense classes, with 18 participating in the event at the Gergy fuel base, totaling about 400 people, including students, chaperones, and base military personnel.
The day started with the classes coming together in the morning for the flag-raising ceremony, symbolizing unity around the tricolor flag. Lieutenant-Colonel Ronan Cottin emphasized the importance of unity, respect, and competition in his address to the young participants.
The students faced eight challenges within a limited time, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and respect. The day culminated in a trophy ceremony, marking the success of the first edition of the Defense Classes Rally 2026.
The students participated in various activities, including throwing grenades, a history and geography quiz, shooting exercises, push-ups, and more. The day also featured guests like François Prévost and Joëlle Arnoult.
In the afternoon, the students engaged in team activities like relay races and tug of war, showcasing their physical and mental abilities. The event concluded with the announcement of winners, with Gabriel Voisin Tournus High School taking the top spot.
The rally was not just a competition but a demonstration of civic engagement and potential career paths in defense forces, law enforcement, and emergency services.
