In a war where technology reigns supreme, the new generations of drones consistently outperform the older ones. Andrii Hrytseniuk, CEO of Brave 1, stated in an interview with The War Zone that the piloting mode has greatly evolved. Operators in Ukraine can now pilot interceptors from abroad, several kilometers from the Ukrainian front line.
According to him, a Ukrainian operator could participate in intercepting a Russian drone of the Shahed or Geran type targeting Ukrainian territory, even from abroad.
“Imagine I send my pilot to the United States on a business trip and an unexpected event occurs, requiring interceptor management. He can handle it from New York or California,” he said.
Low-cost interceptor drones
How is such a feat possible? “These capabilities are likely provided by the Hornet Vision Ctrl system from the Ukrainian company Wild Hornets,” noted the specialized armament site Defense Express. Thanks to this technology, an interceptor drone called Sting was reportedly piloted over a distance of 2000 km while the operator was abroad.
Facing the increasing Russian airstrikes, Kiev has developed a series of low-cost interceptor drones.
Arriving on the front line in autumn 2025, the Sting, for example, demonstrated its effectiveness by destroying Russian kamikaze drones. The main advantage of these drones is their minimal cost, ranging from $1000 to $2000, compared to traditional anti-aircraft defense systems.
Ukraine claims to be the first country to massively deploy this type of interceptor drones on the battlefield. In total, there are reportedly more than 150 manufacturers of anti-aircraft drones working on different models to meet the front line’s requirements.
