Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Friday in the Kazakh city of Turkistan on the sidelines of the informal summit of the Turkic States Organization (TURKSOY), as reported by the Turkish Communication Directorate.

The leaders discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and Uzbekistan as well as regional and global issues, according to a statement shared by the directorate on the Turkish platform NSosyal.

During the meeting, Erdogan stated that the two countries would continue their efforts to strengthen cooperation in all areas, particularly in defense industry and trade, the statement added.

Erdogan also expressed belief in enhancing solidarity between Turkey and Uzbekistan on international platforms, inviting Mirziyoyev to the TURKSOY summit and COP31, both to be held in Turkey.

The closed-door meeting, held at the hotel where Erdogan was staying, was attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
