Jordan had been in student halls for about two months before he says he was racially abused by two other students.
He made friends with another student, Sam, whose friends were at the party.
Jordan said almost as soon they arrived, one of them, Will, who was dressed as rapper Soulja Boy “but had a gun for some reason”, came up to him to ask about his costume.
He asked about Jordan’s prisoner costume, and Jordan said Will told him he didn’t need to dress up like a prisoner to look like a criminal.
Jordan said: “I’m the only black guy [at the party]so I’m not trying to start a problem, especially that soon into uni.
“I said, ‘racist jokes aren’t really that funny,’ and then Will said ‘well I was considering going in black face’.”
Jordan said when he called him out again, he replied: “It’s fine I’m Soulja Boy.”
After going to get a drink, Jordan returned and saw Sam outside with another friend, Henry.
Jordan said he asked what flavour vape Henry had, to which he replied it was banana and he hated it, but expected Jordan would like it.
“I didn’t really believe it, I was thinking maybe he accidentally said that to me. I said, ‘What? are you saying that because I’m black’, and he just said ‘yeah’.”
Jordan said that racism is not funny, to which Henry said, “well Sam is laughing”.
“I told him how lucky he is saying that here, surrounded by everyone else who looks exactly like him, and that I’m the only person here to defend myself.”
