Russian and Ukrainian forces resumed their attacks at the end of a three-day ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, which expired on Monday at midnight local time (9:00 PM GMT), with both sides accusing each other of violating the truce.
While signs of peace progress are evident, detailed discussions are not currently possible. This was expressed by Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during his daily briefing.
In the wake of Putin’s surprising statement that the conflict in Ukraine was nearing its end, U.S. President Trump echoed similar sentiments on Tuesday. Trump also mentioned a possible visit to Russia later this year.
The negotiation process between Moscow and Kiev, mediated by the United States, to end the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II has been on hold since the beginning of hostilities in late February.
The Russian military offensive, launched in February 2022, could stop at any time if the Kiev regime assumes its responsibilities and makes the necessary decisions, according to Peskov. Moscow demands territorial concessions from the Ukrainian government, particularly a complete withdrawal from the eastern Donbass region, partially controlled by Russian forces.
In Kiev, explosions were reported after Russian attacks, with drones causing damage to residential buildings and schools. Russian airstrikes resulted in casualties, with at least four people killed in overnight bombings. Ukrainian air defense responded to Russian drone attacks, neutralizing a significant number.
President Zelensky accused Russia of launching drones and attacks against Ukraine, resulting in casualties and damages.
