In a great first, the Château de Fontainebleau can boast of being the first French cultural establishment to host a council of young people from the culture. Catherine Pégard, Minister of Culture, recently formalized its establishment. 14 other advisory bodies of this type are expected to be set up soon, notably at the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles, and the Opéra de Paris. Personally selected by the minister for a duration of two years, 21 young people aged 13 to 17, all passionate about art and heritage, will be responsible for strengthening the youth’s appetite for culture while providing a fresh and alternative perspective. It is necessary to “raise awareness of art history and heritage,” according to Catherine Pégard. “It is an initiative oriented towards the future involving the new generations in the life of heritage,” believes Marie-Christine Labourdette, the president of the Château de Fontainebleau.

Diversity at the heart of this council of young people from the culture Originally supported by Rachida Dati, the former Minister of Culture, these councils of young people from the culture are directly inspired by the Anglo-Saxon “teen councils.” They will have a “consultative role” to play in cultural life and bring “innovative solutions” in terms of mediation, communication, and programming.

This council of young people from the culture will embody all the diversity of the territory, bringing together different profiles around a common project. Through their curiosity and their taste for transmission, they will be at the heart of being “idea activators,” according to Marie-Christine Labourdette.

To preserve this richness, the Château de Fontainebleau actively collaborates with partners such as educational institutions. Finally, this initiative is part of a broader government policy aimed at making culture accessible to all young people.
