In the context of the National Service, 40 positions are open at the 1st Shock Regiment at the national commando training center.

The President of the Republic has announced the creation of a new National Service, intended to succeed the Universal National Service (SNU), which was deemed insufficient in its results. Designed as a voluntary commitment to the nation, this program aims to address several issues: strengthening the army-nation bond, promoting the integration of young people, and meeting the growing needs of the armed forces. As part of this initiative, the Army plans to recruit 1,800 volunteers starting next fall, with a gradual increase in personnel over the years. Within the 1st Shock Regiment, the National Commando Training Center in Mont-Louis, there are currently 40 positions available in a variety of specific fields. “There are certainly combatants, the basic soldier, but we are also looking for individuals with specific skills,” explains Lieutenant Colonel Raphaël, head of the Training and Instruction Office, “we can recruit a photo operator as well as a drone pilot, a boilermaker, a chef, or even a healthcare assistant.” Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to match the volunteers’ aspirations with the regiment’s operational needs. “We analyze to what extent the candidate’s profile and wishes can meet our expectations while trying to fulfill their aspirations,” the officer adds.

One month of training and nine months of service

Candidates will receive a month of training on-site at the National Commando Training Center, known as the initial training. “We teach them as in the era of military service and as today with our recruits, the common foundation, which is all the basic skills of a soldier. We learn the military world, which is a unique world. We come from the nation, but we have some specific rules of operation,” says Lieutenant Colonel Raphaël. Rifle shooting, basic skills, toughening up, basic combat, safe use of weapons, first aid – these are what those enrolled in the National Service will discover during their month of training. “Depending on the specialty they wish for and that we will provide them, they will have nine months of national service.” This experience could also pave the way for a lasting commitment within the armed forces. “It can lead, if they wish and if they perform well, to a more enduring commitment within the Armed Forces, particularly the Army,” he explains.
