Iran warned Sunday, May 10, of an “immediate response” in the event of French and British deployment in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, warned Sunday of a “decisive and immediate response” from the military in the event of French and British deployment in the Strait of Hormuz, following the announcement by Paris and London of sending military vessels to the region.

“We remind them that in times of war as in times of peace, only the Islamic Republic of Iran can ensure security in this strait and that it will not allow any country to interfere in this area,” Mr. Gharibabadi stated on X.

The United Kingdom and France are at the forefront of establishing an international coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz, once a peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been reached.

Emmanuel Macron responds

Shortly after this statement from the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Emmanuel Macron responded to Iran’s warning regarding France’s presence in the Strait of Hormuz.

The President of the Republic assures that France has “never considered” a deployment in the Strait of Hormuz.
