Cultivated snow at Chabanon: a project of 76,000 m³ to secure skiing until 2055

The first public meeting regarding the restructuring of the snow production facilities at Chabanon did not attract a large crowd.

“This file has been ongoing for eight years and has already been the subject of several meetings, which probably explains this low turnout,” said Mayor Benoît Cazères to Commissioner-Investigator Michel Ingrand and the group of about fifteen attendees, mostly elected officials.

Presented by Camille Duguit from the CNA (Céble-Neige-Aménagement) firm in Grenoble, who has previously worked on the Monges headquarters and the La Cabane conveyor belt, the project includes enlarging the Bressa reservoir to increase its capacity from 10,000 to 76,000 m³, allowing for snow coverage of approximately 25 hectares, around half of the ski slopes.

Securing the ski activity is the main goal, with the aim of ensuring ski activities until 2055, which seems plausible considering the site’s advantages: altitude ranging from 1,600 to 2,100 meters, a north-facing exposure, and mainly grassy soils. This hypothesis is supported by the Climsnow study from the South Paca Region, which predicts a minimum of 90 days of skiing per year.
