Fabienne Touchais Raimbault, a resident of Saint-Berthevin, has a project to introduce children from 5 years old to the Mayenne through a collection of 10 volumes called “La Mayenne c’est vachement mieuuhhh”. This is the first children’s book that showcases the department.
Formerly in administration, Fabienne retrained in graphic design and layout in 2022 after struggling to find work. The collection was born while she was illustrating cups for children, sold at the Laval Tourism shop. She felt that her two small cow heads had a lot to say about the Mayenne, inspiring her to write and illustrate her first volume about the adventures of the cow Mayguerite and the bull Campagnou.
The first book will focus on dairy cow farming, highlighting the daily life of farmers and the journey from grass to milk and from field to plate. Fabienne worked closely with local farmers to accurately portray the realities. She plans to explore various themes in future books such as the main cities in the department, the world of horses, the Mayenne river, castles, sports, local specialties, and more.
Each volume will include a story, illustrations created with the help of artificial intelligence, a glossary at the end, games, and coloring pages. Fabienne launched an online fundraising campaign on Ulule to finance the first book in the collection. She aims to print the books in Mayenne to support the local economy, but local print shops are not competitive compared to online ones. Donors will receive rewards, including the first volume set to be released in mid-June. Additionally, there is a charitable option where a donation of 100€ will result in 5 books and 5 bookmarks being donated to the Laval branch of the Secours populaire.
