Will Luca Zidane see the 2026 World Cup? Victim of a concussion during a match in the Spanish second division with Grenade, the 27-year-old Franco-Algerian goalkeeper has a fractured jaw and chin. His club officially announced his injury on Monday, April 27th in the evening.
The son of Zinedine Zidane, who chose to represent the Algerian national team, suffered a violent collision during an aerial challenge last weekend against Almeria. The club stated, “In consultation with the club’s medical staff, he will decide in the coming hours on the treatment to follow to heal his injury.”
An operation could force the Fennec’s goalkeeper (with six caps), who just participated in the AFCON last January, to withdraw from the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (June 11 – July 19). His absence would seriously complicate the task of his coach Vladimir Petkovic, who is already without the other two usual goalkeepers, Anthony Mandrea (SM Caen) and Melvin Mastil (Stade Nyonnais), both injured.
