Former England cricketer James Taylor has reflected on his retirement in 2016 due to a serious heart condition. Taylor’s retirement came shortly after he suffered a condition similar to that of footballer Fabrice Muamba. He expressed his emotional turmoil at not being able to continue playing for England after working hard to secure his place in the team.
Since his retirement, Taylor has delved into golf and taken on roles as a commentator for Test Match Special and a selector for the England team. He recounted his satisfaction in contributing to England’s success in white-ball cricket, including winning the World Cup in 2019.
In 2022, Taylor stepped down from his role as a selector following changes implemented by director Rob Key. Despite the stressful nature of the job, Taylor emphasized the importance of having a solid decision-making process to alleviate the pressure.
Currently serving as an assistant coach for Leicestershire, Taylor remains grateful for the support he has received from friends and family during his health struggles. He highlighted the significance of mental health and the value of seeking help from trusted individuals during challenging times.
