For three days, from May 1st to 3rd, the international Tetris tournament, “CTWC France 2026,” will take place in open entry, in Montpellier, at the initiative of the association Connaissance et Partage. It is the major French event that attracts an international and local community of loyal players and enthusiasts.
The program for the three days is divided into two distinct tournaments: the NES tournament and the Game Boy tournament.
On NES: the iconic version of CTWC, up to 32 players will compete on 8-bit consoles and cathode ray tube displays. Modified cartridges for the competition allow players to receive the same piece sequences: randomness is no longer an excuse, may the best score win. Qualifications by registration on Friday from 2 pm to 8 pm, followed by the tournament on Saturday and Sunday morning.
On Game Boy, up to 24 players can participate on authentic Game Boys connected by their link cables. Here, speed wins over score: the first to complete 30 lines or push their opponent to game over wins. This competition will take place on Sunday afternoon from 3 pm to 8 pm, with walk-in qualifications all weekend.
The public will also have the opportunity to play on-site, thanks to a Free play area with NES, Game Boy, Super Nintendo, and Switch consoles, to allow everyone to try different classic and modern versions of Tetris. While the CTWC France remains a local event, it benefits from significant visibility. For this 2026 edition, competitors will travel from ten countries: France, England, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, and even Colombia.
The tournaments will be live-streamed on the official channels of the World Championship, allowing fans to follow the matches on Twitch and YouTube platforms (@ClassicTetris).
The event is officially supported by the Classic Tetris World Championship based in Pasadena, California, which coordinates global and regional competitions.
