“Up to now, the death of five people has been confirmed,” the Ukrainian president said on the social network X, specifying that “ten people have been hospitalized with injuries and trauma” and that “four hostages have been rescued.”
A woman in her thirties who was shot during the rampage succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to six and nine wounded, reported Vitali Klitchko, the city mayor, on Telegram.
Prosecutor General Rouslan Kravchenko stated in a statement that the suspect is “a 58-year-old man from Moscow.” He reportedly first opened fire in the street, “after which he barricaded himself inside a supermarket and took hostages.”

“According to preliminary information, he used an automatic weapon. At the same time, a fire broke out in the apartment where the attacker was registered as a resident,” the statement also said.

A man opened fire on Saturday in the Demyivka district of Kiev. He then barricaded himself in a supermarket where an operation was underway to apprehend him, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko had reported.
