Vietnam Prepares for APEC Year 2027

As the host country of the APEC for the third time, after 2006 and 2017, Vietnam is committed to fully implementing and closely collaborating with member economies for the success of APEC Year 2027, thus positively shaping the forum’s cooperation in this new phase.

This was the statement made by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang at the opening of the workshop on strengthening the preparation capabilities for APEC Vietnam 2027, organized by the National Secretariat of APEC 2027, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam in coordination with the US State Department, on April 15 and 16 in Hanoi.

For over forty years, APEC has asserted its role as the primary economic forum in the Asia-Pacific region and significantly contributes to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Faced with profound changes in the regional and global context, APEC remains an essential platform to promote dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building among its member economies, demonstrating great adaptability to new trends and evolving situations.

Vice Minister Nguyen Minh Hang stated that Vietnam will host APEC in 2027, as the country enters a new era of strategic development aiming for double-digit growth, establishing a new growth model based on productivity, quality, efficiency, and enhancing the economy’s competitiveness.

Vietnam elevates its foreign policy to a higher level, adopting an independent, autonomous, peaceful, friendly, multilateral, and diversified approach, actively integrating into the international community. In this context, APEC and the Asia-Pacific region remain top priorities in Vietnamese foreign policy.

Speaking at the seminar, John W. McIntyre, Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Hanoi, praised Vietnam’s role within APEC, the primary economic cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region. He highlighted that the successful organization of APEC Years in 2006 and 2017 confirmed Vietnam’s organizing, coordinating, and leadership capabilities, expressing confidence that Vietnam will continue to play this role in preparing and organizing APEC Year 2027.

McIntyre affirmed that the United States would continue to work closely with Vietnam in the preparations for APEC Year 2027, through capacity-building programs, sharing experiences from previous APEC host countries, and connecting with international experts and partners.

During the two-day workshop, delegates will engage with international experts and speakers to exchange, evaluate, and summarize cooperation progress and APEC Forum priorities from the past, defining future cooperation orientations, sharing experiences, and receiving training on key skills such as conference chairing and co-chairing, agenda development, document negotiation, and consensus-building.

The discussions at this workshop will positively contribute to the development of priorities, initiatives, and specific actions that Vietnam can promote during APEC Year 2027, with the aim of creating a tangible impact and lasting value for the region.

In the upcoming period, Vietnam will continue to closely collaborate with its partners, including the United States and the APEC International Secretariat, to implement concrete capacity-building activities, ensuring the success of organizing APEC Vietnam 2027.

On April 15, Vice Minister Nguyen Minh Hang met with John W. McIntyre, Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Hanoi, representatives from the US State Department, the US-APEC RISE program, as well as international experts and speakers. She expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support of partners and discussed the preparations for APEC Year 2027.
