Cooper Elementary School’s PTA hosted its annual science night on Wednesday, with a variety of family-friendly activities for anyone to enjoy while learning.

“I am very enthusiastic about science. I love science, and so every year we have our science night, and we try to get local businesses here as much as we can to try and exhibit how grown-ups are using science in their everyday life, so that the kids can get excited about science and hopefully try and apply that to their lives, too,” said Cooper PTA Secretary Erika Smith. “I put together a whole bunch of experiments, and our team, the rest of our PTA, comes together and helps out with this night, too.”

The event included a free hot dog dinner and a variety of community organizations, including Sarah’s Serpentarium, Superior Water, Light, and Power, UMD Planetarium, and a high school teacher who brought his collection of pelts and bones to teach kids about animals.

“I have students who attend here, and I love to get them excited about learning. We love to, you never want to stop learning. You just want to continue to learn and grow all throughout your life. And so I feel like I can get excited about science, and I can get kids excited about science, too,” said Smith.
