According to the Spanish media outlet Voz Populi, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has proposed to UEFA a new model for broadcasting European football before making it freely accessible to all viewers. However, this perspective is not on the agenda.

This decision could have potentially disrupted European football. As per Voz Populi, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez envisions a future with elite football being broadcast for free. And according to the Spanish media, negotiations “are about to conclude” with the Madrid president reportedly willing to suspend his heavy complaint against UEFA regarding the Super League so discussions can take place.

Real Madrid aims to establish a model where viewers do not incur any costs “thanks to integrated advertising funding”. This could threaten the business interests of Movistar, the main football broadcaster in Spain. However, according to RMC Sport, this project is still far from becoming a reality.

Not on UEFA’s Agenda

According to multiple sources from RMC Sport, this project is not currently under consideration by UEFA, which has recently sold TV rights for several billions of euros through its UC3 agency.

These contracts, finalized in various European countries in recent weeks, have been signed for a fairly lengthy period, such as in France with Canal+. This idea of free broadcasting largely echoes the concept previously proposed by the Super League representatives.
