Several weeks after the resignation of medical coordinator Nicolas-Pierre Bernot, FC Nantes is facing another significant departure with the club doctor stepping down.
The atmosphere remains particularly tense within the medical department at FC Nantes. Following the announced resignation in early May of medical coordinator Nicolas-Pierre Bernot, club doctor Isabelle Salaün has now decided to leave the Canaries, as reported by Ouest-France.
Arriving in August 2019 to succeed Dr. Marc Dauty, this 55-year-old native of Angers played a central role in the medical organization of the Nantes club. Her departure comes amidst a period of internal turbulence, as the operation of the medical staff has been the subject of numerous criticisms in recent weeks.
A crisis triggered by Waldemar Kita’s remarks
Tensions escalated after a public statement by Nantes president Waldemar Kita on April 27. In an interview with Eurosport, the executive mentioned alerts from the medical department regarding the work of the sports staff.
These statements quickly created internal discomfort and fueled speculation about possible tensions between different factions of the club. In the days that followed, Nicolas-Pierre Bernot found himself at the center of the controversy, suspected of being the source of information transmitted to the management.
The physiotherapist then announced his departure at the end of the season, denouncing what he deemed to be unfair accusations and claiming to be a “scapegoat” in this matter.
The medical sector deeply weakened
The departure of Isabelle Salaün represents a new stage in this internal crisis. A recognized physician in French football circles, she had become an important figure in the Nantes medical setup over the seasons.
With these two successive departures, FC Nantes will have to rebuild part of its medical organization before the next season. This reorganization comes as the club is already going through a delicate period in terms of both sports and institutional matters.
Behind the scenes, this succession of departures now raises questions about the overall stability of the internal operations of the Canaries and the potential implications this crisis could have in the coming weeks.
