Every Tuesday, live at 6:45 p.m. and then on replay, Bref Eco appears on BFM Lyon for the Focus Eco show, the meeting of the Lyon economy. This week, we welcome Tristan Vernay, co-founder of Sapsh, a company specializing in AI-analyzed videos for sports, which is currently raising funds.
In this interview, Tristan Vernay discusses the creation in 2016 of Spash, a Lyon-based company that has chosen to provide an amateur sports solution to debrief after a match, through video capture analyzed by AI. “We provide data/video content that allows sharing a better moment just after the match and throughout the rest of the week,” details Tristan Vernay. In short, they look at the best actions, strengths, weaknesses, and access automatically calculated statistics.
A solution limited to ball and ball sports
This requires cameras, screens, but above all AI developed in-house. This AI detects players, balls, lines, then cross-references it with the rules of the respective sport to provide players with statistics.
However, a limitation: “for the video and calculations to be interesting, the cameras need to be close to the action,” specifies Tristan Vernay. This limits the solution to sports like padel, tennis, five-a-side football, and more generally sports in gymnasiums.
Spash targets amateur clubs with the promise that players will find the same content seen in a professional match on television. The price range ranges from 90 to 600 euros per month (average basket of 250 euros).
A fundraising round to expand internationally
To date, Spash equips nearly 500 clubs in around twenty countries (€2.5 million in turnover in 2025). And while the technology is now mature, the company is looking to expand. For this, they are in the process of raising funds (€2.3 million) to hire salespeople and expand further internationally. “The goal is to become the European leader by the end of 2027,” concludes the entrepreneur.
