The Aix Sports Association continues its impressive ascent. After leaving D1 last season to join Regional 3, the Aix club has just validated a second consecutive promotion with a move to Regional 2.
A performance that confirms the renewal initiated since Gregory Decombe took over the presidency two years ago. Upon his arrival, the new president clearly stated his goal: to give a strong position to the senior teams while gradually restructuring the club. “After the administrative relegation we suffered and a descent to D3, the team started from scratch and, with hard work and skills, quickly reached the regional level. This is just the beginning. We have solid foundations, quality youth teams, and our senior team must be the showcase of the club,” explains President Decombe.
Context: The Aix Sports Association has achieved back-to-back promotions under the leadership of President Gregory Decombe.
Fact Check: The club went from D1 to Regional 2, skipping Regional 1.
Creation of a sports-study section
Two seasons later, the results speak for themselves. ASA has regained ambition, stability, and above all, a sporting dynamic that seemed to have been lost in recent years. This promotion to R2 rewards the work done by the entire staff, players, and volunteers. The Aix group has shown consistency, solidarity, and character throughout the season to achieve this ambitious goal.
The technical coordinator, Cyril Granon, sees his work paying off: “This promotion is good news for our young people who will aim to join a team playing in the regional league. It could even attract more young players. Our satisfaction also lies in the creation of our sports-study section in collaboration with the Rocher du Dragon college. With 5 training sessions per week from the fifth grade, our young players are immersed in football! Our ambition is clearly to continue this progress and eventually bring the club to R1, or even higher. But after two consecutive promotions, the idea is above all to build on solid foundations, without skipping steps, with a structured and sustainable project. Step by step.”
Beyond the results, a whole project seems to be taking shape in Aix-en-Provence. With two consecutive promotions, ASA is gradually returning to a level more in line with the club’s history and potential.
Fact Check: The club aims to maintain a stable position in Regional 2 and further develop their sports project.
Coach Didier Samoun enjoys these two beautiful promotions: “Two promotions in three seasons, it’s great. We achieved the goal we set with the president and we savor it. I have a great, united group that has always pulled in the same direction both in terms of sports and humanity. And as for whether I will still be present next season, the answer is a resounding yes!”
From now on, the team’s objective will be to establish themselves permanently in R2 and continue to structure the sporting project in order to continue this fine progress. One thing is certain: ASA is back.
