ASVEL temporarily enters the top 4 of Betclic Elite on Friday evening after their victory at home against Gravelines (88-79), on the occasion of the 28th day of the season.

This Friday evening, ASVEL pulled off a good operation. Winners on the court against Monaco fifteen days ago (83-87), Pierric Poupet’s men followed up with a second consecutive victory in Betclic Elite against Gravelines-Dunkerque (88-79). This success allows ASVEL to temporarily climb into the top 4 while awaiting the other weekend matches.

Harrison and Jackson lead ASVEL

In this match, it was the visitors from Gravelines who were the most effective at the start of the game, quickly taking the lead. Caught off guard, ASVEL’s players gradually got a handle on the game and equalized under the joint leadership of Shaquille Harrison (24 points) and Edwin Jackson (16 points). A tight first quarter that ultimately turned in favor of ASVEL, leading at the end of the first ten minutes (20-17, 10th).

ASVEL continued to widen the gap in the score, taking advantage of a huge empty period by the Gravelines players at the start of the second quarter. With a 14-0 run in just over four minutes, the Villeurbanne team established a clear advantage. Gravelines attempted to disrupt ASVEL’s momentum through Jacob Gilyard (20 points), allowing their team to only be ten points behind at halftime (43-33, 20th).

Upon returning from the locker rooms, as Gravelines tried to turn the tide of the match, ASVEL maintained their lead in the third quarter, benefiting from a good collective sequence punctuated by a 10-0 run, of which 8 points were scored by Harrison. Despite a pushback in the final ten minutes, Villeurbanne relied on their individual skills, including Melvin Ajinca (13 points), to secure their eighteenth win of the season (88-79). This victory temporarily places ASVEL in the top 4 of Betclic Elite, replacing JL Bourg who will face Saint-Quentin this Sunday (4:30 PM).
