Following the publication of a deficit exceeding 100 million euros, Jean-Marc Mickeler has spoken out to clarify the DNCG’s position on the Marseille case. The president of the French football financial watchdog made a statement after the publication of the accounts of French clubs, clearly distinguishing between OM’s situation and that of OL, while confirming that the Marseille club will indeed have to adjust its economic trajectory.

«OL has a deficit of 200 million euros as of last June 30, Marseille, over 100 million euros… These results are very worrying… These two situations are very different and require separate interpretations. In Lyon, the new management team responded with reactivity and determination that command respect. The mass salary reduction carried out in one season is unprecedented in the recent history of French professional football. It is a considerable effort and we fully recognize it. In Marseille, the club has chosen maximum sporting ambition by anticipating European revenues that have not materialized as expected. Frank McCourt and the new management are fully aware of the necessary adjustments. These are two iconic clubs, driven by committed shareholders. Our role is to guide them towards balance, not to weaken them. »
