Absent since his fall in Bormio in December 2024, Cyprien Sarrazin has returned to training this week and could make his comeback to competition in a few months if everything goes well.
Gradually, Cyprien Sarrazin is getting closer to a return to competition. At least, he is making it possible. Indeed, after being a two-time winner in downhill at Kitzbühel (Austria) in January 2024, the Gap native saw his career abruptly stop on December 27, 2024 after suffering a fall during training in Bormio (Italy) that caused him an intracranial hematoma.
Many months later, the 31-year-old skier has recently returned to training in Val-d’Isère. According to several media reports, he has discussed his feelings and does not rule out a return to competition in a few months based on how his summer preparation goes. “Physically, I am well, but there is still work to be done. Mentally… (He hesitates.) I have put a lot of things in place to come back in the best possible conditions,” he initially admitted.
Sarrazin: “This event could have cost me my life”
“I am euphoric to be back on the speed skis, but we need to assess things, discuss with my staff. I don’t have any certainties yet. I mainly want to resume my sport with pleasure. It is not a certainty or a promise, but with pleasure, yes, of course, I see myself returning to competition. If I suffer too much, I will not do it,” Sarrazin later explained in comments collected by L’Équipe.
“I will make the decision after the end of the planned preparation, this summer. In a few weeks, we will organize ourselves as best as possible, having the information on what worked or not this past year. This event could have cost me my life, but it made me grow. It will serve me to go further, whether I stop or continue in competition,” also declared the French skier who could make his big comeback during the 2026-27 season.
