Having put pressure on its European competitors, OL received some good news and some less good news at the end of this 31st day of Ligue 1. A three-horse race seems to be emerging for the Champions League.
Corentin Tolisso and Paulo Fonseca enjoyed this match on a Saturday at 3pm. By doing the work, not without difficulty, against Auxerre (victory 3-2), OL could have a “quiet” weekend with the feeling of a job well done. It only remained to see what the competitors would do in this race to Europe and to the Champions League. As for the Champions League, it’s more or less the status quo. However, the battle now seems to be limited to three teams: OL, Lille, winner at Paris FC, and Rennes, defeating FC Nantes at the end of the match (2-1). However, in this Ligue 1, nothing is certain. Even if only one point separates these three clubs, there is no guarantee that things won’t change in the last three matchdays.
An OL – Rennes match more decisive than ever next Sunday.
Nevertheless, this weekend gives the feeling of having reassured a European future for the Lyonnais. Seventh after their draw against Toulouse, Monaco is six points behind OL. On the other hand, OM was held to a draw by Nice at home on Sunday evening (1-1) and is now four points behind the other Olympique in sixth place. No definitive lead, but a big step forward nonetheless. It must be said, the clash against Rennes on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.) in Décines will be worth its weight in gold. The possibility of putting the Bretons four points behind with two matchdays to go is enough to whet the appetite to definitively open the doors to the Top 4.
