Violent clashes erupted between supporters of Olympique de Safi and USM Alger, two clubs facing off in the second leg of the African Confederation Cup
Scenes of chaos unfolded on the sidelines of the African Confederation Cup second leg semi-final. This Sunday, the match between Olympique de Safi and USM Alger, played in Morocco, was marked by pitch invasion and clashes between supporters. The kickoff was delayed.
Originally scheduled for 8:00 PM local time, the match started with over an hour and twenty minutes delay. The Algerian players initially returned to the locker room, refusing to play at first.

Both sides are accusing each other of violence. In footage captured by witnesses, chair throwing can be seen from some supporters and how overwhelmed the security seemed by the situation.
Facing the threat of a forfeit, the game did proceed, with USM Alger qualifying (1-1) thanks to the away goal rule.
Now an unprecedented final awaits between USM Alger and Egyptian side Zamalek SC. The first leg will be held on May 9 in Algeria. The return leg will be on May 16 in Egypt.
