After Dortmund’s defeat to Hoffenheim on Saturday, Bayern Munich could be crowned champions as early as this Sunday on the occasion of the 30th matchday of the Bundesliga.
The title is within their grasp. Topping the Bundesliga with 76 points before facing Stuttgart this Sunday (5:30 pm), Bayern Munich is flying high in the league and could even be crowned champions today. Explanations.
Dortmund, in 2nd place behind Munich, lost on Saturday to Hoffenheim (2-1). This was a stroke of luck for Michael Olise and his team. With 64 points, BVB has given Vincent Kompany’s men the opportunity to lift the trophy as early as this Sunday. By securing at least a draw against Stuttgart, Bayern Munich would therefore reach 77 points and have a 13-point lead over their closest rival. Considering there are still four matches left in the championship, even if Dortmund were to win all four of their upcoming matches, Munich cannot be caught up with.
In case of defeat this Sunday, another opportunity will present itself in the next matchday against Mainz. Once the title is secured – which seems likely given their clear dominance this season – attention will quickly turn to the double confrontation against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals (April 28 and May 6).
